Who Wears the Trousers?
Gerry McCann
For reason’s best kept to himself, Gerry was delighted to be afforded the opportunity to get out of the house for a couple of weeks. The last time he was this happy, it was when he appeared in Scenes From a Water Cooler, yet another storming success from the Gúna Nua Team. Gerry has never won a Tony Award ™, although he did win most improved player with the Theatrical Cavaliers Cricket Club one year.

Tom Murphy
Tony Award ™ Winner Tom Murphy is delighted to be making his debut with Gúna Nua Theatre. In fact, he has not felt this excited since Felicity Huffman pecked him on the cheek while giving it to him. He now feels that his acting education is complete, having worked with all the greats, such as Garry Hynes, Neil Jordan, John Crowley, and now Meade and Parnell. He was thinking of taking the summer off, but heard that the tea and biscuits with Gúna Nua were particularly good, so decided to work for less than his usual fee to help out a young company in need. When not working for biscuits, Tom has appeared in numerous film and TV dramas (including PURE MULE, for which he won yet another award at the Irish Film and Television Awards), and all over Ireland on stage.

PAUL MEADE is the tallest playwright currently working in Ireland. The last time he made a public appearance, to pick up his Stewart Parker Award for Skin Deep, he was casually observed to be over seven foot tall, although Meade himself denies this. Meade is said to turn down all dinner-party invitations, owing to his not being able to get his knees under most standard size dinner tables. Similarly, when offered a lift back to Dublin from his native Limerick one time in a small car, he politely declined, declaring, ‘if it’s all the same I’d rather walk.’
DAVID PARNELL hails from a long line of barbers, and not – as is commonly believed – from a long line of wealthy cricket players. His grandfather, a respected barber, once gave the young Parnell some invaluable advice: ‘Keep it short and simple,’ he said, ‘none of your scraggly bits. Scraggly bits are just showing off, and go out of fashion really quickly. And whatever you do, don’t get mixed up in that bloody theatre business!’ Unfortunately, young Parnell was only eight months old at the time, and paid no heed to the wise old man’s advice.
