Trouser Production (or: why we decided against Lederhosen)
From the creators of ‘Scenes From a Water Cooler’ and ‘Thesis’ comes a new tale of friendship, loyalty, expanding waistlines and 80’s Male Pop Duos. ‘Trousers’ explores the meaning of life, the need for love and the healing properties of herbal tea. A comedy for men who like yoga and beer and women who wonder what makes them tick, Trousers promises to be a touching, witty night at the theatre.
New York Pants
‘Trousers’ will open in Dublin in August prior to its New York premiere in October. Gúna Nua are delighted to be presenting their work Off-Broadway in a unique co-production with Origin Theatre Company New York. Trousers will run from the 5th of October at the prestigious 59E59 Theatre in Manhattan.
This is Gúna Nua’s second co-production with Origin Theatre company having produced Crestfall by Mark O’Rowe at the 59E59 theatre in 2005. Crestfall was a big success for Origin and Gúna Nua and we are really looking forward to presenting another new Irish play in New York.
Story of the Trousers
Dermot, a single man in his thirties, lives a quiet life alone working as a postman by day and dreaming of being a world famous DJ by night. Suddenly his peaceful and ordered life is shattered by the arrival of his old friend Mick. Mick has been kicked out by his girlfriend and looks to Dermot for a place to stay. He brings with him a bag of unwashed clothes, very little money and a business plan.
As the guys begin living together, memories are evoked of the last time they shared accommodation, seventeen years ago, for a summer in Manhattan, when they both worked in a restaurant to earn their college fees, and sang male duets together to impress girls.
The story flashes back between the present and the past, as both guys try and fail to sort out each other’s messy lives.
